University of Palermo, at Palazzo Steri the fourth edition of the Science Disclosure Day

PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – A manifestation now among the cornerstones of the University of Palermo, through the reproduction of a specific theme in both theory and practice: at Palazzo Steri was held the Day of Disclosure of Science, which reached its fourth edition (the first was held in 2022).

This year the University has chosen to focus on ‘Itineraries between music and sound’. Two central moments: the lectio magistralis of the teacher of History of Music Dario Oliveri, entitled ‘Presente-passato: an eternal brilliant garland’, and the performance of violinist Giorgio Gagliano, who graduated in Philosophical and Historical Sciences in Palermo and graduated from the Conservatory.

The event included a delegation of students from the Conservatory itself and two classes of the Regina Margherita Master’s Institute.

To illustrate the meaning of this Day is the rector Massimo Midiri, who emphasizes how this appointment “expires the concept of scientific dissemination: we are too immersed in information often incomprehensible for those who live daily life, so it is important to remember that there is the need to spread information making it clear and understandable. The risk is that too much scientific language does not attract, do not interest and distance young people from disciplines that change the face of our society. Today we will talk fundamentally about music, wanting to represent the exaltation of the ability to be divulners: it is a message that we send both to the teachers and to the boys, so that they know that in this university besides learning they must be able to communicate in a simple way”.

Music, adds Midiri, “is a constituent element of our work: the relations we have made within the third mission with some organizations, such as Palermo Classica, make it a glue and a mechanism of attraction. We also have very important Musicology courses and our teachers are famous in Italy, Europe and the world for the studies they conduct. Research, culture art and science are closely connected: music and science are not divided by a rigid dichotomy, on the contrary they are two directions that constantly dialogue and always live; music is also a therapeutic tool.”.
