Unrae, after the fall of January the used car market returns slightly positive

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – After the fall of January, the car market used in February returns to the positive sign: with 493.963 ownership transfers (dates waiting for consolidation), the month recorded a +0.7% compared to 490.757 of February 2025. Net transfers decrease by 1.9%, while minivoltures mark a +3.9%. The 1st bimester stores a decline of 2.4% with 938.116 transfers (-2.3% on 2019). In the month, the gasoline engine returns market leader with 39.2% share (same share in the heap); the diesel loses 4.4 points and drops in second position with 38.4% (38.9% in the bimester). Hybrids confirm a sustained growth, reaching 12% in the month (11.6% in January-February); they follow Gpl and methane respectively to 5.4% and 1.9% in the month (5.5% and 2.0% in the 2 months); BEV and plug-in rise to 1.2% and 1.7% in February (1.2% and 1.6% in cumulation).

In February transfers per contractor confirm the trend of the previous months: exchanges between private individuals/businesses, which remain largely predominant, are stable and account for 56.0% of all ownership passes (56.8% in 2 months). In parallel, those from operator to final customer lose 0.4 points, at 39.0% in the month (38.4% in the bimonth). The same are also penalized by the exchanges from auto-immatricolazioni that increase of 0.8 points of altitude (4.1% in the month and 3.9% in January-February), while those coming from the rental lose 0.4 points (0.9% overall in the month and in the piled).

In February the analysis by region confirms unchanged the podium: in the first place Lombardy, at 16.4% of altitude (+0.4 p.p.) and in the second Lazio at 9.8% (-0.3 p.p.). In third position we find Campania with 9.1% share (+0.1 p.p.) and in 4th place Sicily, at 8.1% (-0.1 p.p.), followed by Veneto at 8.0%. In February, the net transfection of cars with over 10 years of age earns 0.8 points, at 48.1% (49% in the cumulation). The car from 6 to 10 years is stable, at 17.4% (in line with the cumulated). The cars from 4 to 6 years represent 9.9% (-1.9 p.p. compared to February 2025, same share in the 1st quarter); 12.4% the share of cars from 2 to 4 years (+0.1 p.p., to 12% in January-February), and 4.1% that of cars from 1 to 2 years (-0.5 p.p., to 4.0% in 2 months). The cars up to 1 year go up to 8.1% in the month (+1.4 p.p., 7.7% in the cumulation). Overall, car transfers up to 4 years of age cover 24.6% in February, 1 point in more than the same month 2025.

On the front of the mini-voltures, it grows of 0,8 points to 29,8% the share of the rites of cars from the operators (29,5% in the bimestre), and drops to 53,9% (-1,1 points) the share of private individuals or other companies that permutate their car (53,8% in the piled). There are 0.8 car points from auto-immatricolazioni (up to 1.9% in the month and 1.8% in the cumulation), while they earn 0.2 from Long Term Rental (up to 11.1% in both the month and the bimonth) and 0.8 from Short Term Rental (up to 3.3% and 3.7% in January-February).

Among the minivoltures, diesel cars maintain leadership in the month, but drop 3.3 points to 41.0% (41.1% in the bimestre). The petrol engine earns 0.2 points at 32.6% (32.7% in January-February). The Gpl drops to 5.3% both in the month and in the bimester, the methane yields 0.3 points to 1.7% (1.8% in the first 2 months). In sustained growth the minivoltures of hybrid cars, to 15.6% (15.3% in cumulated). The plug-in and electric hybrids are also positioned at 2.1% (+0.3 points) and at 1.7% (+0.5 p.p.); in the 1st bimester respectively at 2.1% and 1.8%. Also among the minivoltures recovers the share of cars with more than 10 years, to 36.4% of the total: 0.5 points in more than February 2025 (36.8% in 2 months). It earns 0.3 points the range from 6 to 10 years (to 19.7%, 19,4% in the piled) and loses 2.7 points that from 4 to 6 years to 10.9%, both in the month and in the piled. Retrieve 0.1 points the band from 2 to 4 years (at 17,2%, 16,8% in the bimestre); that from 1 to 2 years falls to 4,6% (-0,9 p.p. and 4,7% in January-February), while recovers 1,8 points that up to 1 year, to 11,2%. Overall, the minivoltures of cars up to 4 years of age cover 33.0% in February, 1 point in more than the same month 2025.
