Urso “Italy and Germany to the EU, change route on automotive”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We are at a turning point: a new phase for the European industry opens today. Italy and Germany are united to ask the Commission for a change of route on the automotive sector immediately. With responsibility, pragmatism and vision.” The Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, commented on the joint letter sent by MIMIT and the German Ministry of Economy (BMWK) to the EU Commission, in support of a shared vision for the future of the European automotive industry.

The initiative, signed by Urso together with Minister Katherina Reiche, follows an intense bilateral confrontation initiated in June with a first alignment on the theme of decarbonization of the company fleets and, subsequently, with the definition – interministerial level – of a shared position in view of the strategic dialogue EU on the car, that precisely the Italian initiative has finally activated with the ‘non paper’ presented a year ago. “With a common and clear position – continues Urso – we point out together the way for a green transition that is truly sustainable from the environmental, social and economic point of view, overcoming the ideological cages of Green Deal”.

“Once again, the European debate has finally opened thanks to the determination of the Italian government, which has brought to the centre of the agenda the concrete needs of our industry. Now is the time for decisions: While Brussels discusses, global competition runs. We can’t afford to stay still. Europe must act, and must do so immediately,” he concluded.
