US, Leavitt on auto tariffs “American workers first”

WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – “I just want to point out that these auto tariffs yesterday are a big problem for auto workers in the industry. And you saw the United Auto Workers Union, Shawn Fain, who was not the president’s biggest fan during the campaign, came out this morning and applauded the president for this move, saying this is a great thing for auto workers who have been sold out by unfair trade practices.” This is how White House spokeswoman Leavitt commented in a press point on the introduction of the 25 percent tariffs on cars produced outside the United States.

“As you know, on April 2 there will be the announcement of reciprocal tariffs, which will focus particularly on countries that have cheated the United States,” Leavitt added. The president said yesterday that he thinks some of these numbers would be more conservative than many expect, but we will make sure that American workers are put first and we will end the unfair trade practices that have drained our middle class for decades.”

At the press point, Leavitt also expressed great satisfaction with the arrest of the MS-13 gang leader in Wooldbridge, Virginia, earlier today morning: “This is a great victory for the American public, and the president is very proud of Attorney General Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, who worked together with Governor Youngkin in Virginia. So, we applaud the effort of state and local law enforcement. This was a very violent individual who was arrested in a home with five children present. So, our communities are safer this morning and it’s a good day for our country.”

Leavitt also returned to the Signal case, arguing that such mistakes will never happen again: “We have never denied that it was a mistake, and the national security adviser has taken responsibility for it. And we have said that we are making changes. We are looking into it to make sure that it can never happen again. But obviously, the president has put together a team: look at the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, who was voted in by the U.S. Senate, putting our warfighters first, making the world a safer place for the American people and for all people. And we will continue to focus on that. And I think the arrest of an MS 13 ringleader this morning speaks volumes about the confidence of the president and his team.”
