US, Trump signs an order to dismantle the Department of Education

WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – “Today we take a truly historic action that has been in the making for 45 years with the signing of an executive order to begin eliminating the federal Department of Education. We’re going to eliminate it, everybody knows it’s right and I hope Congress votes for it, everybody knows it’s right, we need to educate our children.” This was said by President Donald Trump during an event in the East Room of the White House in which he announced the dismantling of the Department of Education. “We are not doing well with education in our country, and we haven’t been doing it for a long time,” Trump added. “After 45 years, the United States spends far more money on education than any other country, yet we are ranked near the bottom of the list in terms of success. Seventy percent of eighth grade students are not proficient in reading or math, 30 percent of fourth graders are deficient. Despite this failure, the department’s budget has exploded by 600 percent in a very short period of time and employs bureaucrats in buildings all over Washington. My administration has initiated staff reductions and we are already cutting and halving the number of bureaucrats.”

During his remarks Trump stressed that funds for needy will continue to be provided by other agencies, “We have a very good research program for children with disabilities, for them the funds will be preserved in full and distributed to other agencies and departments that will continue to take care of them, but beyond these basic needs, my administration will take all legal measures to close the Department, we will close it as quickly as possible, it is not doing well and we want to bring education back to the states.” Trump also extolled the work done by Denmark, China Norway and Sweden on the education side, “We can’t say that size makes education impossible, because China is very big, but they have states that do a very good job,” Trump added. “We will have education as good as Norway, Denmark and Sweden going back to the states where it belongs. This is an important thing to do and it will work because states want to take back their children to give them individual education. That way the cost will be cut in half and the education will be far better.” After his speech Trump officially signed the executive order to begin the process of removing the Department of Education, which now needs congressional approval.
