CARACAS (VENEZUELA) (ITALPRESS) – Strong explosions, accompanied by noises similar to those of planes in flight, occurred around 2 of the night (7 in Italy) in Caracas, according to international media. Images of explosions and columns smoke from various parts of Caracas circulate on social media. The house of the Venezuelan Defence Minister, Vladimir Padrino López, would have been hit in air raids, according to the local media. The minister would be unreachable.
The Government of Venezuela has denounced “the very serious military aggression” of the United States, according to the local media. President Nicolas Maduro declared the state of emergency and asked for the popular “mobilization”. In an official note, the government speaks of “gravissima military aggression carried out by the US government against the territory and the Venezuelan people. This act is a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter.” Caracas denounces ongoing attacks as “the attempt to impose a colonial war to destroy the republican form of government and impose a regime change.” “The people of Venezuela and the Bolivarian national armed forces, in perfect unity between the people, the police and the army, are deployed to guarantee sovereignty and peace,” adds the note, stressing that the government will present formal protests among others to the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General to demand condemnation of the attacks attributed to the United States.
The United States attacks on Venezuela in progress for a few hours would have been planned for days by the Trump administration. CBS News reports it adding that the plans of the attack would already be ready for Christmas, but the free way would be delayed due to the bad weather conditions and air raids that the United States conducted on the same days in Nigeria. The US embassy in Bogotá in Colombia, which also performs its functions for Venezuela, warned American citizens not to travel to the South American country and invited those who are already on site to find refuge.
The first confirmation came from Colombian President Gustavo Petro who wrote in a post on X: “At this moment they are bombing Caracas. Allert for the whole world.”.
TAJANI “GRANDE ATTENZIONE, FINORA PER GLI ITALIANI SITUAZIONE TRANQUILLA”
“Since there was the attack we are following the situation with our embassy in Caracas. The situation is very tense.” He said this in connection, during the extraordinary edition of Tg2, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. “We have given indication to all Italians to be prudent – he adds –, we follow with the utmost attention what is happening. Our crisis unit is available as our embassy. So far there has been no call of Italians living in Venezuela. For the moment the situation for Italians is quiet”.
AMBASCIATORE DE VITO “RESTARE NELLE ABITAZIONI”
“The recommendation is to stay in their respective homes, do not go out and stay in touch with the embassy and consulates.” He said so, in connection with the extraordinary edition of Tg2, the Italian ambassador in Venezuela Giovanni Umberto De Vito. “At this moment – he adds – they don’t feel neither explosions, nor sighs, what we recommend is not moving at this moment.”.
