LECCE (ITALPRESS) – Sassuolo’s external blow as they eviscerated Lecce’s Via del Mare 2-0 in the match valid for the round of 16 of the 2024/2025 Coppa Italia. Goals scored by Tarik Muharemovic and Luca D’Andrea were decisive, giving Fabio Grosso’s team, one of the favorites in the Serie B championship, qualification to the round of 16 against a team of higher category. The visiting lineup immediately starts with its foot on the accelerator and after 7′ carves out its first chance at goal with a header by Muharemovic, on the development of a corner, that ends just wide. A very similar scheme is played again by the Black and Green in 13′ and this time it leads to Tarik Muharemovic’s goal for the lead: the former Juventus player takes advantage of a precise cross from Doig and scores the winning shot that beats Fruchtl. The yellow and red team tries to react by relying on its best men, but has a hard time breaking through the wall erected by the opponent’s rearguard. Dorgu is the most active among the Salentini and also tries some conclusions from the distance, which however turn out to be vain. In the final part of the first half, Sassuolo came close to doubling the score with Russo who, from an excellent position, wasted a very good chance. It goes back to the locker room on the partial of 0-1 in favor of the Emilians. In the second half, coach Luca Gotti tries to shake up his team through substitutions, but the entry of fresh forces does not give the turnaround hoped for by the coach. The hosts became unbalanced going in search of the equalizer and lent their flank to Sassuolo’s restarts, which on two occasions went close to 2-0 with the newly-entered Moro. The doubling of the Emilians, however, is only postponed as at 79′ Luca D’Andrea closes the game by taking advantage of a mistake by Rebic and signing the final 2-0. By virtue of this result, Sassuolo detaches the pass for the round of 16, where it will meet AC Milan.
