ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Jonas Vingegaard will be at the start of the next Giro d’Italia. The confirmation came from Visma-Lease a Bike on the occasion of the presentation of the team for 2026: for the 29-year-old Danish will be a first time. Behind the decision of Vingegaard to measure with the pink race the desire to change approach after clearly losing the last two Tours against Tadej Pogacar, to which in 2024 he managed the doublet. With two Grand Boucle and the last Vuelta in his palmares, Vingegaard could also become the eighth ever runner to win all three Great Tours.
“Even this has played a role in my decision and I have long been thinking of running the Giro d’Italia – he confessed to Danish – It is one of the most important races of the calendar and it is also one of those I have never played. I really want to live it, and now it looks like the perfect time. I have already won in France and Spain, now I want to do the same in Italy: I would love to add the pink jersey to my collection”. To convince Vingegaard – who will first run the UAE Tour in February and the Giro di Catalonia in March – also a path not as hard as in previous years and that makes it possible to pair with the Tour: “They are my main goals.”.
Staying in the house Visma, Wout van Aert will instead make Tour and Vuelta (“I have an outstanding account”, the reference to the withdrawal in 2024 in Spain) but first will point on the Classics: debut at Strade Bianche on March 7, then Milan-Sanremo. “I consider you among the most beautiful races of the season and I absolutely don’t want to miss them”, the words of the 31-year-old Belgian who then will begin his Flemish campaign with the Homloop Het Nieuwsblad, the Giro delle Fiandre (5 April) and the Paris-Roubaix (12 April).
