VERONA (ITALPRESS) – The president of Veneto Alberto Stefani and the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida have signed today in Vinitaly, in the presence of the general brigade Francesco Pennacchini (comandante Region Carabinieri Forestale Veneto), the renewal of the Convention between Region and Masaf to strengthen the institutional collaboration for the protection of the fauna, the prevention of forest fires, the defense of the agro-silvo-s “With this signature – said Stefani – we consolidate a fundamental operational alliance for the safety of our territory and for the protection of our environmental and productive excellence. The Veneto invests on an integrated model in which institutions, state forces and regional structures work together to prevent, control and intervene promptly and effectively. It is not only a technical convention, but a real qualitative leap in the ability to preside over the territory: from the fight to the fires to the management of the great carnivores, to the food safety and traceability of the supply chains. It is an investment on sustainability and legality.”.
The Protocol regulates the use of the units of the Forestry Carabinieri in matters of regional competence for the three years 2026-2028, defining in a timely manner areas of intervention, operational responsibilities and coordination tools. The agreement is divided into three main macro-areas. In the first place, the prevention of forest fires and civil protection activities, through surveillance activities in hazardous territories, investigative support for the ascertainment of responsibilities, participation in regional technical tables, information and awareness-raising activities. Secondly, the agreement invests on the protection of agro-silvo-pastoral heritage, providing monitoring and control activities in forestry, statistical surveys and forest heritage monitoring, verification of the cutting and management of forest surfaces, control of the production and marketing of forest materials, technical and informative support to industry operators, participation in the protection of monumental trees and plant protection.
Particular emphasis is placed on the chapter dedicated to the protection of fauna and safety, with joint activities for monitoring in protected areas and in Natura 2000 sites, the contrast to poaching and illicit against wildlife, the prevention of the use of poisoned baits, the collaboration with healthcare companies for the prevention of animal diseases, the control of traceability of wild meat. A specific focus is devoted to the management of large carnivores, with the monitoring and management of emergencies, the ascertainment of predation damages, the possible permanent captivation of problematic specimens and the training activity for provincial police. “In the Convention we also tackle the subject of great carnivores in a concrete and scientific way – Stefani added – ensuring balance between the protection of biodiversity and safety of local communities.”.
For the implementation of the activities, the Veneto Region provides a total of 120,000 euros for the two-year period 2026-2027, with the possibility of refinancing for 2028, and any additional resources for extraordinary activities. “This Protocol is a virtuous model of institutional collaboration – President Stefani concluded – which focuses on the protection of the territory, the security of citizens and the valorization of our natural resources. This is how we build a safer Veneto, with an effective alliance with the Masaf and the Forestry Carabinieri”.
