CATANIA (ITALPRESS) – On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, an event titled “Dialogues on the prevention, protection and management of cases of violence against women” was held at the “Dusmet” Hall of the “Garibaldi-Centro” hospital of Catania, organized by the Maternal and Child Department of Arnas Garibaldi, directed by Professor Giuseppe Ettore, and the Clinical Risk Unit, Dr. Anna Colombo. Numerous professionals and experts involved in the fight against abuse and gender-based violence confronted each other, with the main objective of sharing expertise and information, including through a specific Interprofessional and Interinstitutional Network. Opening the proceedings was the general director of Arnas Garibaldi, Giuseppe Giammanco, followed by greetings from the administrative director, Giovanni Annino, and the medical director, Mauro Sapienza.There were numerous keynote speeches, including those of the Deputy Prefect, Rosaria Giuffrè, the Director of the Operational Cyber Security Center of the State Police, Marcello La Bella, the Councillor for Equal Opportunities of the City of Catania, Viviana Lombardo, and the Psychologist Director of the ASP Catania and Referent Psychologists Code Red, Sonia Desireè Mazzeppi.During the event, a Contest was promoted, to raise awareness among students, entitled “Toxic Love: when relationships are pathological,” dedicated to short stories, writings, poems, videos, theatrical recitations, as well as artistic, graphic or photographic creations. The competition involved the Liceo Classico Statale “N.Spedalieri” of Catania, coordinated by professors Vincenza Ciraldo and Eleonora Morando, the Liceo Scientifico Statale “Enrico Fermi” of Paternò, coordinated by professors Giuseppina Giunta, Alfina Scarcella and Anna Libra, and the Istituto Tecnico Economico “G.Russo” of Paternò, coordinated by professors Concetta Centamore, Cristina Salimeni and Giuseppina Anna Virgillito. The Project encourages reflection and deepening on the value of mutual respect, with the aim of preventing and countering discriminatory and violent attitudes.Of particular interest was the contribution of Fabiola Galvani and Gabriella Torrisi, gynecologists at Arnas Garibaldi, and Carmela Puleo, physician referent Codice Rosa for Arnas Garibaldi.The event was also attended by numerous associations, including: Women’s Action Center, Thamaia Association, Galatea Association, Avulss, A.l.i., Atog, Cuore di donna, Lilt, Tribunal for Patients’ Rights, Friends of Hope, Odv and Voi.- photo Arnas Garibaldi press office of Catania -(ITALPRESS).
