MILANO (ITALPRESS) – Inter IKEA Group, has chosen Codognotto – an international company of transport and logistics, specialized in integrated solutions for the decarbonization of supply chain – as a partner for a new energy transition project that focuses on electric. The historic Treviso company introduced a Volvo FH Aero Electric 100% full electric vehicle dedicated to long-range transport in its fleet.
With a maximum total mass of 44 tonnes and a 540 kWh battery with which we will be able to travel about 500km per day. The new e-truck will transport furniture and furnishing accessories on the Portobuffolè (Treviso) – Piacenza, Piacenza – Corsico and Piacenza – Padua, with an estimated operation of 252 days a year.
The project aims to efficiently integrate inbound and outbound logistics, connecting IKEA suppliers to distribution centers and then to Corsico and Padua stores. The routes have been studied and optimized by the Codognotto planners to maximise the performance of electric vehicles, reducing the stops and minimizing the empty kilometres.
This initiative is part of the global commitment of IKEA to reduce the environmental impact of its supply chain. The Swedish furniture giant has set the goal of reaching 100% zero-emission deliveries by 2030, investing in innovative logistics solutions and collaborating with strategic partners.
“This is an important step in the route of decarbonization of IKEA transports, with an improvement of efficiency at the same time. Thanks to this new triangular partnership we are able to define together the optimal operating model and develop a solution that reduces overall costs, cutting down hours of inactivity and optimizing the use of routes. We are sure that this new transport system will generate a significant value, contributing in particular to improve air quality and reduce noise pollution on Italian roads”, says Ewelina Taylor, Global Transport Manager at Inter IKEA Group.
“The delivery of the first Volvo electric truck to the logistics operator Codognotto, marks a significant milestone in the transition to a more sustainable logistics. In fact, we share the commitment to innovation, research of efficiency and concreteness in proposing solutions for the reduction of environmental impact. All this is not so obvious and immediate, but it is the result of a project started long ago, which involved interlocutors who usually do not intervene in traditional negotiations. The flexibility in charging and engagement of our partner on charging solutions are some elements that have added value to the solution offered,” says Sabrina Loner, eMob|Product Homologation Director of Volvo Trucks Italy.
“For Volvo Trucks, the electric is a concrete, reliable and scalable technology, available for a few years now, which can contribute to a more sustainable future. This solution applies immediately to areas where daily distance and travel are not relevant, such as urban and regional transport. Of course, the transition from an operation with a diesel vehicle to an electric vehicle requires different planning and management, but once you find the key and the right collaboration with the actors of this novo ecosystem, you hardly come back. Together we once again demonstrate that innovation and sustainability can proceed in hand,” concludes Sabrina Loner.
“The transition to electric transport requires pragmatic choices and real collaboration throughout the supply chain,” said Matteo Codognotto, Supply Chain Director of the Codognotto group. “With this project, we aim to demonstrate that the electrician, if planned on the right routes and supported by the appropriate infrastructure, is already a concrete solution: reduces emissions, stabilizes operating costs over time and improves service quality. Of course, the autonomy of the means is still a limit, but thanks to the collaboration with partners and customers throughout the chain we manage and overcome these criticalities. Our role is to build replicable operational models that accelerate decarbonization without compromising efficiency. ”
“To adopt the electric is not only a question of sustainability, but a real operational revolution” continues Szymon Pyzik, Key Account Manager of Codognotto “The more limited autonomy than traditional vehicles requires a much more accurate route planning, so as to reduce the empty kilometres and optimize the stops. The charging times, much longer than the diesel supply, impose a revision of the operating planning; and the still limited availability of infrastructure leads us to integrate strategic partners like Fleet220 to ensure service continuity. It is a transformation that requires logistic intelligence and organizational flexibility, but which represents a necessary step to make the electric competitive and reliable in the long term”.
With the electric, Codognotto adds a key to its offer, strengthening the role of strategic partners for customers in the construction of increasingly complex and evolved energy transition paths, tailored to the operational and sustainability needs of each company.
