BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – “At an extraordinary time, we need extraordinary measures: it is important to be united. This is a key moment for Europe in the face of a clear danger and it must be able to defend itself. Ukraine is part of our European family and we must also put it in a position to be able to protect itself and to press for a just and lasting peace.” This was said by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press point in Brussels on the sidelines of the extraordinary European Council that is to discuss support for Ukraine and EU defense.
“It is the reason why today I will present to the leaders the plan for the rearmament of Europe, which includes 800 billion in defense investment, which gives the opportunity for member states to invest in the Ukrainian defense industry and also to buy military capabilities, so it benefits the rearmament of the EU, but also the rearmament of Ukraine in its existential struggle for territorial sovereignty: it is a very important moment to show that we will be with Ukraine for as long as it takes,” he added.
