Water polo kicks off, Barelli “Fin aims for two championships”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Yet another very important season begins, with championships on which the federation is also betting a lot from the point of view of media coverage, in addition to a series of initiatives to support clubs, and also continues our outreach to state authorities to have fundamental supports both from the regulatory and facilities point of view.” These were the words president of the Fin, Paolo Barelli, at the presentation conference of the men’s and women’s water polo championships, kicking off on October 12 and 19, respectively. “It’s going to be a beautiful championship because there are great coaches, who come from an important school and who are in the front row to develop young people. The Settebello is already competitive, but we also have a very strong young generation. We are in good hands, I am confident that in Los Angeles 2028 we will be competitive, we will not back down,” explained Settebello coach Alessandro Campagna at the Piscine del Foro Italico Convention Hall. Also present was Carlo Silipo, who focused on the women’s championship. The Setterosa coach “welcomed the newly promoted Lazio and Ancona,” and then drew up his list of favorites for the title: “To fight for the title will be Catania, Sis Roma and Padova, but we must also include Trieste and Rapallo, which have done very well in the buying campaign. It will be a very important year, post-Olympics, because we should draw the best possible indications to form the group that will face the next four-year period.” The presentation of the two championships was also an opportunity to celebrate the legend of Ratko Rudic, the only coach capable of winning four Olympic gold medals with four different national teams, including Italy, with which, between 1992 and 1996, he completed a Grand Slam that no team has yet replicated. A celebration occurred through the docu-film “Dogodio se,” which can be translated to “It happened,” broadcast at the end of the conference. “It is not just a film about the successes of some National Teams, but it is a document about 50 years of world water polo. I am excited to see my players again and proud of what we have done,” Rudic admitted.- Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
