Welcome week at the University of Palermo, open doors to high schools

PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – The University of Palermo opens its doors to secondary schools to present its educational offerings for the new academic year: 22,000 students from more than 100 institutions have joined Welcome Week 2025, which opened this morning in the Viale delle Scienze complex. The event will continue until Friday and includes, for the students, a series of meetings with faculty, students and academic tutors from the various departments of the university to receive information on the study plans and job outlets of each degree program; on the other hand, all information will be provided on enrollment methods, announcements, payment of fees, procedures for taking entrance tests, student facilities and postgraduate educational opportunities.Enriching the educational offerings for the next academic year will be courses in Veterinary Medicine and Science of Adult and Continuing Education in Palermo: also in Agrigento will start (in mixed mode) Languages and Translation for Cultural and Territorial Services and Technology and Diagnostics for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage, while in Trapani Obstetrics and Science and Techniques of Preventive and Adapted Motor Activities and Sports Activities.”Orientation is one of the most delicate passages for young people coming from the world of schooling,” stresses Rector Massimo Midiri, “They must understand well the meaning of a choice that can strongly condition their lives, and we have the duty to give them the tools to choose with awareness, not on the basis of hearsay. We will make an orientation more and more projected to the work projection, we must not only give them hopes in what they study but also the right skills to enter the world of work as soon as possible, at the same time avoiding the brain drain from Sicily: if it is not stemmed it will lead in a few years to the impoverishment of our territory.”Regarding the housing situation for students, Midiri points out that “the University does not have its own residences, as they belong to Ersu: for years there has been a full house in all available facilities, but we are pushing with the regional government to have even more beds, especially in the more peripheral locations. We will soon open a residence hall in Trapani, showing that the university is intervening to give students a bed, a canteen and services that allow them to reach the places where they study.” The rector closed with a wish regarding enrollment: “Our goal is to reach 50 thousand enrollments: although the trend in recent years is growing, on master’s degrees we still need to improve.”Also taking part in the inauguration of Welcome Week was City Councillor for Urban Planning Maurizio Carta, a longtime lecturer and pro-rector at the university: “The plus sign that has distinguished the university for so many years is a sign of the work that is being done: the foundations of the future are being laid here, and the synergy between institutions can only foster the growth of young people. We listen to each other following the same direction and work together for this city: we have demonstrated this with the redevelopment of via Archirafi, but we have not stopped.”- photo xd8 Italpress – (ITALPRESS)
