PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – An event that reiterates the central role of the University of Palermo in promoting on the one hand a culture of sustainability, on the other hand a dialogue between research, institutions and enterprises with the look always aimed at the objectives of the Pnrr: this is the sense of ‘M’ illumino di meno’, a seminar promoted in the context of the National Day of energy saving and sustainable lifestyles. This is a demonstration created in 2005 by Rai Radio2 with the Caterpillar transmission, to spread the culture of environmental sustainability and the saving of resources: for the 2026 edition, held in the Sala delle Capriate of Palazzo Steri in Palermo, the athenaeus chose to focus on the role of science. At the same time, the event aims to enhance the contribution of scientific research to the energy and ecological transition processes in place, emphasizing the role of research bodies and enterprises in the development of innovative solutions for renewable energies, energy efficiency, circular economy and mitigation of climate impacts.
“We tried to focus our activities in the Centre for Sustainability and Ecological Transition, which acts as a glue between everything we do in the university in both educational and research – emphasizes the vicar director Enrico Napoli -. A fundamental aspect is that of disclosure, because people must necessarily enter into a logic of energy saving, projection towards the future and maintenance of vital needs for the planet.” The dissemination aspect, continues Naples, is linked “with scientific activity: in particular, we enter into the within of several projects of the Pnrr on which we invested many financial resources, many energies and much commitment. From all this we try to draw a series of transversal elements that I meet towards an overall vision of safeguarding ecosystems and the overall energy system.”.
For Maurizio Cellura, director of the Atheneo’s Ecological Sustainability and Transition Centre, there is “a need for more science on the one hand to refute climate negationists who continue to argue that there is no connection between the massive use of fossil fuels and the current climate emergency, on the other to increase the efficiency of technologies powered by renewable sources: ‘Mi illumino di Scienza’ is part of this context, which we develop together with the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development’. In addition to the central issues of the event, he added, “we will discuss research projects developed within the Pnrr and discuss the Energy Plan of the University, which represents the programmatic commitment we have assumed to improve energy performance and significantly reduce emissions of climate change gases in the context of our university: the aim of the conference is to confront us and discuss the most effective research strategies in the context of renewable energy and energy efficiency”.
