Woods, nature and phytosanitary defense: 22.2 million in Sardinia to prevent damage and strengthen natural balances

CAGLIARI (ITALPRESS) – Preventing damage, strengthening ecosystems and planning interventions over time. It is the goal of the €22.24 million package that the budget change devotes to forests and restoration of nature, plant protection and wildlife management. “Climate change and increasing pressure on ecosystems require intervention before the problem takes on the size of the emergency – says in a note the Environment Councillor Rosanna Laconi –. Programming means being able to better protect forests, cork, river systems and agricultural activities, using resources where and when they are really needed.”.

For the restoration of nature 4 million euros in the two-year period 2027-2028, destined to recover the functionality of degraded ecosystems, from wetlands to water streams, from dunes to grasslands. On the other hand, a structural financing of EUR 1 million per year from 2026 is introduced for the wooded heritage of the Municipalities with a forest management plan approved and not covered by other sources of funding.

Additional 1.8 million support the Bosco Action in the three-year period. The research, fruition, protection and valorisation of karst and speleological heritage and the regional speleological catasto are also destined 390 thousand euros in the three years (130 thousand a year) in favor of the Sarda Speleological Federation.

Particularly consistent is the chapter of phytosanitary defense and the contrast to harmful insects: 10.2 million overall. Of these, 4.7 million in 2027-2028 are intended for the containment of infestations caused by defoliator cork lepidopter; 4.5 million in the three years strengthen the activities entrusted to the Provinces against arthropods, rodents and other harmful organisms; 1 million will finance in 2026 an extraordinary intervention on carriers in Oristanese. Health skills remain in charge of the competent authorities. Wildlife is finally allocated 2.75 million. The regional plan of control and containment of the feed has 1,75 million in the three years, while an additional million strengthens in 2026 the fund for compensation of damage caused by wildlife. With the latter appropriation, the amount for compensation totals from 1 to 2 million euros, allowing to strengthen in particular the coverage of damages to agricultural activities. “The protection of biodiversity must live with the safety of economic activities and with the balance of the territories. The effective response is a coordinated management, based on scientific knowledge and the ability to intervene continuously,” concludes the Councillor Laconi.
