Zoppas “Italy can be among the protagonists of the space economy”

WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – “As part of Space Day, which was held at the Italian Embassy in Washington, Ice organized a meeting between entrepreneurs, businesses and operators of the space economy. More than 500 people attended the event. The agreement with Virgin Galactic and the Apulia Region constitutes an important potential for investment from abroad, with a concrete spin-off on the territory and with an equally potential development of those technologies vocated to export.” This was stated by the president of ICE, Matteo Zoppas, speaking at the Space Day held at the Italian Embassy in Washington. “Made in Italy produced 625 billion in exports in 2023, of which 7.5 billion came from aerospace, up 14 percent compared to 2022,” he added. “In the first eight months of 2024, the figure for Italian exports in the sector was 4.3 billion. According to the latest estimates, the new space economy will grow from 400 billion to 1,800 billion by 2035. With these trends, the sector’s more than 7 billion euros could become at least 30 billion in 2035, and our manufacturers will have to be in the game, thanks to an important teamwork also of the country system that facilitates the matching of supply and demand. This is a train we cannot risk losing. In fact, the growth potential is very high and the whole world is focused on the implementation of new projects and initiatives. “When we talk about the excellence of Italian products, we are not only referring to the three ‘F’s, Food, Fashion and Furniture, but also to technologies. The Italian government, starting with President Giorgia Meloni, is very focused on the potential of the space economy and the project being presented today expresses well the commitment there is to the sector. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working hard on growth diplomacy for the space economy through the work of diplomatic structures around the world and The Ministry of Made in Italy, which is responsible for the Aerospace sector, is creating the conditions in Italy to improve the competitiveness and skills in which we are leaders,” Zoppas concludes. ICE is strongly committed to creating concrete business opportunities to promote the advanced technologies and services offered by our companies. Over the past two years we have carried out more than 50 initiatives for the aerospace system in more than 20 different markets. This third edition of the National Space Day in Washington, D.C. goes to underscore the capacity for innovation of Italian companies and reaffirms Italy’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with the United States, which is certainly the first reference market.”
