Lebanon, U.S. calls for 21-day ceasefire

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The United States and other allied countries have called for an immediate 21-day ceasefire along the Israel-Lebanon border. At the end of discussions held yesterday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, their support for an immediate and sustainable cessation of hostilities in Gaza, was reaffirmed. The cease-fire requested by the United States would apply to the Blue Line, the demarcation line between Israel and Lebanon, and would allow for the negotiation of a potential diplomatic solution to the conflict, said a senior official in President Joe Biden’s administration. “We urge all parties, including the governments of Israel and Lebanon, to immediately endorse the temporary cease-fire,” says a joint statement of countries released by the White House and including Italy, Canada Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the European Union among the signatories. Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 quoted a source in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office as saying there is a green light for the ceasefire to begin negotiations from Jerusalem. The Israel Today newspaper quoted U.S. officials as saying that the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah will go into effect within hours. For its part, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth said the “Jewish Power” party, led by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, will meet following reports of a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.-photo Ipa Agency-(ITALPRESS).
