ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was signed between the National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV) and the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) based in Japan.
The agreement was signed by the President of INGV, Fabio Florindo, and by the President of NIED, Kaoru Takara, in the presence of directors of the departments and monitoring sections of INGV, of the leadership of NIED, and of representatives, for Italy, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and, for Japan, of Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
The agreement aims to promote the exchange of information and the development of joint research activities in the fields of seismology, volcanology and environmental studies, through the sharing of data and skills, the realization of laboratory experiments, the exchange and training of personnel. The aim of the MoC is to develop and disseminate theories and technologies that contribute to the mitigation of natural disasters and the sustainable development of the Earth’s environment.

The agreement confirms the commitment of the two institutes to enhance scientific research as a fundamental tool for reducing risk from natural disasters, in order to protect more and more the communities and territories that host it.
