Roma beats Venezia 2-1 in comeback, Pisilli shines

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Roma overcame Venezia 2-1 in a comeback in the match at the Stadio Olimpico valid for the sixth day of the 2024-2025 Serie A championship: Cristante and Pisilli overturned the guests’ initial lead signed by Pohjanpalo. It works, then, the Juric cure, good in the changes, at home Roma (deprived of Dybala, always on the bench today); unlucky knockout for the Veneti of the former Di Francesco.
Excellent start to the game by the lagunari who, after only three minutes, come to the conclusion with Svoboda: Svilar stretches and deflects in corner. The Giallorossi’s response is not late and at 6′ Soulè tries with a shot from outside, which is easily neutralized by Joronen. The pace of the match remains very intense and around 20′ Ivan Juric’s team goes close to the lead on two breaks with captain Lorenzo Pellegrini. Just before the half-hour mark Pohjanpalo started to light up, first being bricked by Angelino and then grazing the post with a shot on Ellertson’s suggestion. Roma, for its part, also made itself dangerous with a left-footer by El Shaarawy and a cross-shot by Soulè, on which Joronen was not unprepared.
At 43′, Venezia took the lead thanks to Joel Pohjanpalo’s goal: Busio hit a resounding post and the Finnish player was the quickest to put it back into the net. In the midst of the recovery, the Lagunari came close to doubling again with the Scandinavian, on which this time Mancini’s save on the line was crucial. In the second half the orange and green doubled with Haps, but the match director stopped everything for offside. In the meantime, Ivan Juric decided to make the first substitutions to try to shake up his Roma side, but at 59′ it was still the hosts who made themselves dangerous with Oristanio who, on one-on-one with Svilar, was hypnotized by the Serbian goalkeeper. As the minutes passed, the Capitolini became more and more pressing and on 75′ managed to grab the equalizer with Bryan Cristante who, thanks to a deflection by Busio, mocked Joronen with an impregnable trajectory from the distance.
Roma was not satisfied and in the 83rd minute completed the overtake with Niccolò Pisilli’s first goal in the Giallorossi, who scored with a header off a corner taken by the last-entry Paredes. In the final Soulè was replaced due to physical problems (his condition is to be evaluated). By virtue of this result Roma rises to 9 points; while Venezia remains at 4. Thursday for the Giallorossi is the Europa League away match against Elfsborg.
