CATANIA (ITALPRESS) – Sac, a management company of the airports of Catania and Comiso, announces the activation of a new direct link between Catania and Newark/New York operated by United Airlines that will leave on 28 May 2027 with four weekly frequencies throughout the summer season. This is, underlines a note of the company, of a further result of the work carried out by Sac for the strengthening of the network of international connections of the Catania airport that thus consolidates the presence of the etneo port of call in the American market. The new link, continues the note, adds to the routes already successfully activated towards North America, with the flights Catania-New York operated by Delta Air Lines and Catania-Montrèal of Air Canada. The new United Airlines route will connect Catania directly with the New York metropolitan area through the Newark Liberty International Airport, offering new mobility opportunities for Sicilian passengers and at the same time strengthening the accessibility of Sicily for travellers from the United States. The connection will be operated with Boeing 767-300ER, equipped with 46 seats in the Polaris Business class, and will be active four days a week from May to September 2027. “The announcement of the new United Airlines connection is a particularly significant result for Sac and Catania Airport, which continues to strengthen its international network and its role as a gateway to Sicily to the main world markets – declare Nico Torrisi, CEO of Sac, and Anna Quattrone, President of Sac –. We thank United Airlines that fits into a context that has already seen the activation of important connections to North America and confirms the ability of our airport to attract leading international carriers. The American market represents a strategic asset for Sicily, both for tourist flows and for economic and cultural relations, and being able to count on a further direct connection with the New York area, arriving at 11 flights a week, is an important added value for the territory. Sac will continue to work to further expand and qualify the connectivity of the airport, in the interest of passengers and the economic and tourist development of Sicily.” – photo Ipa Agency – (ITALPRESS).
