The institutional and entrepreneurial mission of the Liguria Region ended in the American state of Georgia, which from 23 to 25 September brought the Ligurian delegation between Savannah and Atlanta to strengthen the relations in the fields of portualità, the logistics, the international trade, the innovation and the research.
Federlogistica-Confstrada participated in the mission with the president Davide Falteri, placing in the center of the meetings the construction of a “Georgia-Liguria Logistics Bridge”: a stable path of collaboration between the ports, the enterprises and the logistic systems of the two territories, aimed to develop new traffics, investments and commercial opportunities between the United States, Italy and the Mediterranean.
The delegation, led by the chief of Cabinet of the president of the Liguria Region, admiral Massimiliano Nannini, has brought together the representatives of Liguria Region, Federlogistica, of the Authorities of Harbour System of the Liguria Sea, University of Genoa, Genoa Airport, Agency in Liguria, Italian Institute of Technology, Liguria International and FILSE. Cactus Holding and Firmamento Technologies Ligurian companies also took part in the Atlanta stage.
“This mission has shown how important it is to present itself on international markets as a single territorial system”, says the president of Federlogistica-Conf Trasporto, Davide Falteri. « Liguria can offer ports, logistics, universities, research, technology, tourism and entrepreneurial skills. Our goal is now to give continuity to the meetings and to transform the relationships built into measurable projects, opportunities for enterprises and new business flows”.
The first stage took place in Savannah, where the delegation visited the Georgia Ports Authority and the Garden City Terminal, deepening the prospects of development of the port of call and the possible synergies with the ports of Genoa, Savona-Vado and La Spezia.
During the comparison with the U.S. port vertices, strong affinities emerged between the two systems, both engaged in extending their respective reference markets through the intermodality, innovation and digitization of the logistic corridors. Savannah represents one of the main gateways to the southern United States, while the Ligurian harbour system constitutes a natural entrance to the Mediterranean and South Europe.
The marketing manager of the Harbour System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea, Alberto Pozzobon, has illustrated the strategic role of the Ligurian ports and the opportunities linked to the creation of digital corridors capable of making faster, transparent and efficient the transit of the goods.
The day continued at the World Trade Center Savannah, with a comparison dedicated to international trade and the possibility of cooperation between enterprises, logistic operators and subjects engaged in import-export.
In this place, Maria Nives Riggio, Deputy Director-General of FILSE, presented the Ligurian ecosystem of innovation and regional tools to support businesses and startups, highlighting the role of the FILSE BIC in linking universities, research, institutions and productive system.
Atlanta’s appointments have expanded its comparison with the themes of investment attraction, advanced manufacturing, automation, aerospace, electrical mobility, financial and technological services and artificial intelligence.
The delegation met with representatives of the local economic system at the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, visiting Tech Square, the Advanced Technology Development Center and Emory University, with its incubator The Hatchery.
Particular attention was paid to applications of artificial intelligence, automation and new technologies for logistics and supply chains. The comparison also covered the possible collaborations between universities, research centres and Ligurian and US companies, including the prospects offered by quantum calculation, applied research and technological transfer.
The final day has previewed two round tables dedicated to the future of logistics and to innovation, with the involvement of representatives of the transports, the harbour system, of the enterprises and of the research, besides a meeting with the tourist operators in order to develop new relations also on the plan of the territorial promotion.
Federlogistica pays special thanks to the Liguria Region, which promoted and organized the mission, and to Admiral Massimiliano Nannini, who led the delegation and assured an effective connection between the institutional, economic, scientific and entrepreneurial component.
A heartfelt thanks also goes to the regional councillor responsible for international relations Angelo Vaccarezza, for the impetus given to the international projection of Liguria, and to Filiberto Calascibetta, Honorary Consul of Italy in Atlanta for the State of Georgia, for the attention reserved to the delegation and for the precious contribution to the consolidation of the institutional and economic relations between Italy and Georgia.

“The mission must not end with the journey,” adds Falteri. «Federlogistica intends to work immediately to mapping trade flows, to identifying interested enterprises and to the definition of specific chains on which to experience a stable collaboration. The next step will be to create a working group between Liguria and Georgia and to identify permanent referents on the American territory”.
The objective is to follow the meetings already in 2027, developing new entrepreneurial missions, exchanges between enterprises and universities, joint initiatives and a structured link between the logistic and productive systems of Liguria and Georgia.
