GENOVA (ITALPRESS) – “The words of the Minister of Tourism Gianmarco Mazzi at the Forum Risorsa Mare della Spezia confirm a vision that we share: the sea must be considered as a unitary tourist system, able to relate ports, landings, coastal destinations, cities, villages and hinterland”. This is affirmed by the Regional Councillor for Tourism of the Liguria Region, Luca Lombardi, commenting on the intervention of the minister dedicated to the economic weight of the marine tourism and the prospects of development of the field.
In his intervention Mazzi remembered that, at national level, the nautical from diporto has reached a record turnover of 8,6 billion euros, while the cruises have closed 2025 with 14,7 million passengers. The minister has indicated among the strategic objectives modern tourist landings, efficient connections, quality services, training and digitization, emphasizing the role of ports as access to the territories. A model that finds in Liguria a particular concentration of excellence.
In 2026 the region was confirmed first in Italy by number of Municipal Blue Flags, climbed to 35, while there are 18 Ligurian tourist landings awarded, two more than 2025 with the entrance of Marina del Fezzano in Porto Venere and Porto Carlo Riva in Rapallo. The reception capacity is accompanied by significant economic declines. In 2025, the Genoese professional boat tied to maxi yachts produced an estimated economic impact in 663 million euros, with a contribution of 234 million to Ligurian GDP and 3.240 jobs. In the same year, the crocieristico section in the ports of Genoa and Savona has generated 346 million euros of direct economic impact, of which 255 million, pairs to 73%, attributable to the activities of home port, with approximately 2700 employees direct along the supply chain.
“The numbers show how much tourism linked to the sea goes well beyond the only seaside dimension – says the Councillor Lombardi -. Liguria can count on 35 municipalities Blue Flag and 18 certified tourist landings and on a nautical and crocieristico system that generates important economic and occupational relapses. The landings and ports are not only points of arrival and departure, but they can become real gateways to the discovery of the territory”.
“The challenge is precisely this: to create an increasingly strong link between those arriving from the sea and what Liguria can offer on the ground, from the cities to our beautiful villages, from food and wine to culture, to the outdoors and the hinterland. The more we can transform a landing or a stopover into an opportunity to know and live the territory, the more the value produced by maritime tourism is distributed on communities and local activities. In this direction, the quality of services, connections, digitization and the ability to build an integrated offer throughout the year becomes fundamental. It is another piece of Liguria that we want to promote 365 days a year,” Lombardi concludes.
