ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Ministry of Environment and Energy Security “ welcomes with satisfaction” the political agreement reached on 23 September in New York, on the edge of the Week of High Level of the General Assembly of the United Nations, between the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani and the Director of UNDP Alexander De Croo, which previews the strengthening of the UNDP Centre of Rome for Climatics
United Nations Fund for Capital Development (UNCDF).
“This is a milestone that MASE has contributed decisively to building – said Minister Gilberto Pichetto -. The Ministry is the main institutional partner of the UNDP Centre in Rome since its creation. A level of ambition that leads the Centre to the heart of the strategy indicated by the President of the Council Giorgia Meloni to make Rome the European hub of investments in Africa, in accordance with the Mattei Plan and with the Global Gateway Strategy of the European Union”.
“Our partnership with Italy is a constant growth story. Today it represents a portfolio of over $100 million and a solid presence in Rome. I sincerely thank the President of the Council Giorgia Meloni, the Vice-President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto and the Italian Government for their constant support”, said De Croo. “The new contribution of Italy to basic resources is a clear sign of trust in UNDP and a solid starting point for an even deeper partnership.”.
The partnership between MASE and the UNDP Center in Rome is based on three pillars: youth, climate and innovation, through Youth4Climate; finance for transition, with the PISTA platform; energy, with Energy for Growth and Mission Innovation. The focus is on the private sector and the mobilization of finance for development towards infrastructure projects and financial instruments in partner countries.
The Centre works with the entire Italian ecosystem, public and private, from financial institutions to enterprises, universities to research centers, and was recognized by the Leaders of the G7 during the Italian Presidency 2024 as a platform for public-private partnerships and for the mobilization of finance for development.
The presence in Rome of the UNCDF, with its innovative financial instruments, will be linked to this work in a complementary way, expanding the range of solutions available to attract investments in the energy transition, in particular in fragile and emerging economies.
