PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – “ Scouting is a concrete school of autonomy, responsibility, service, respect for the rules, care for others and the territory. I’ve always considered volunteering the fourth leg of the country. And that’s why I wanted to take part in Agesci’s “Radici e Orizzonti” initiative, the Italian Catholic Guides and Scouts Association. The growth of our children is not only an economic issue and institutions, families, school, church and associations must feel part of the same educational community for the transmission of the highest values“. This was said by the president of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani taking part in the meeting organized by Agesci at the Teatro Politeama in Palermo.
“The government’s commitment to the new generations – added Schifani – is constant, there is maximum attention from the regional government. With gym vouchers, with projects in schools, with a new training model, with Liberi to choose, with anti-crack law. These are just a few examples of our concrete policies and all the measures implemented to allow young people who had left Sicily to return, such as the South working. The data are giving us reason: between 2021 and 2025, there were 11,908 young people under 40 who returned from abroad in Sicily. A figure that marks an increase of 52.3% compared to the previous five years. At the same time there is a decrease of 14% in the youth espatri from the island”.
“This is statistics that, at national level, place Sicily behind only Lombardy by absolute number of returns. These are the first signs – concluded Schifani – of a clear reversal of trend and a renewed capacity of the Sicilian territory to offer positive prospects for the future. And it is in this direction that we intend to continue in the coming years to allow the island to continue to improve. The future of Sicily must not simply give it to our young people: we must build it together with them.”.
