MILAN (ITALPRESS) – A set table beneath which hides a huddled, suffering girl. The food almost seems to crush her, but the problem, in fact, lies elsewhere. In a place inside her, in her heart or in her head, where complex thoughts rumble to face: being afraid of life, of being inadequate, of not coping. “My eating disorder is not in the food” is the title of the awareness campaign presented at the Cinema Anteo in Milan before a dense audience of journalists, schoolchildren, doctors and parents of DCA patients. Strongly desired by Ambra Angiolini, who conceived and directed the commercial screened at the preview, and produced in collaboration with Animenta and with the contribution of Danone Italia with the Nutricia Fortini brand, the campaign aims to raise awareness to understand that DCA should not be sought at the table, should not be cured at the table, because it is definitely not only a matter of food. The intent of the campaign, in fact, is to put back at the center what a person suffering from it feels, and that it needs to be addressed in specialized venues, as the experts who spoke at the event emphasized. “Nutrition and eating disorders are a reflection of deep emotional pain,” explained Dr. Eugenia Dozio, a clinical dietitian who is an expert on DCA. “Food becomes a way to cope with or mask exhausting feelings, unprocessed trauma and inner suffering and finds a form of silent communication in eating behavior. Treating all this requires an approach that recognizes the intertwining of soul, mind and body. “Treatment also comes through empathy and listening to people who face a path of struggle with DCA. As Ambra Angiolini, who herself has lived with an eating disorder for many years, testified, family is of paramount importance to those who suffer from it. Closeness and empathic, nonjudgmental listening are a starting point that can make a difference in the face of a manifestation of deep and unexpressed suffering. It is to respond to this hidden call for help that Danone Italia, with its Nutricia Fortini brand, has chosen to support the campaign “My eating disorder is not in the food”: although Danone is a Nutrition company, it is in fact aware that food is not the only cure for a complex pathology, which instead requires a multidisciplinary approach. Thus was born the collaboration with Animenta, a nonprofit association founded in 2021 by Aurora Caporossi that deals precisely with raising awareness on the issue of DCA, and Ambra Angiolini, who created the “Laboratori dell’Anima” project and the commercial that represents the heart of this campaign. “As a company, we deeply believe that companies have a responsibility to the communities in which they operate and must contribute concretely to relevant social causes,” said Manuela Borella, Vice President of Danone Specialized Nutrition Italy and Greece. “Through Nutricia Fortini, we have chosen to support the cause of DCA because we know that nutrition is only one element of the treatment pathway. These are diseases that require an approach that focuses on the person, their experience, the soul before the body. With this campaign we reiterate that the fight against eating disorders requires a collective effort to bring attention back to what often remains invisible and hides behind the malaise. “These statements are joined by those of Aurora Caporossi, founder and president of Animenta: “It’s a campaign that digs into the emotions. We wanted to invite people to sit at our table, the one you see at the end of the commercial, where there is no longer food, but a series of fears that cause complex suffering. Our goal is to create dialogue and collaboration with third sector entities, as well as clinical professionals, to raise awareness more and more about what is behind DCA and to help change the narrative of eating disorders.”
