Suzuki will participate in Dakar 2025 using a hydrogen-powered vehicle

TURIN (ITALPRESS) – Suzuki, is pursuing its global multipath strategy toward carbon neutrality through numerous projects. Specifically, Suzuki in collaboration with Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha, brought together in the research organization HySE (Hydrogen Small Mobility & Engine Technology Association), is exploring the use of hydrogen as a clean energy source for vehicles, paving the way for sustainable, zero-emission mobility. To achieve a decarbonized society, a multipath strategy is needed to address various issues in the mobility sector, rather than focusing on a single energy source. In this context, research and development aimed at the commercialization of mobility with hydrogen-powered engines, considered a next-generation energy source, is gaining momentum. After an initial experience at Dakar 2024, Suzuki will once again take a leading role in the famous Dakar rally-raid in 2025, Jan. 3-17 with the new HySE project of which Suzuki is an integral part, participating in Mission 1000 ACT2 of Dakar 2025 with the HySE-X2 prototype. Mission 1000 is the new category of the world’s toughest rally-raid, intended for next-generation vehicles that promote carbon neutrality.HySE participated in Dakar 2024 with HySE-X1, the hydrogen-powered prototype, with the aim of testing the performance of the hydrogen engine under extreme conditions. The HySE-X1 finished the race and placed fourth in its category. For participation in Dakar 2025, HySE designed the HySE-X2, a prototype evolved in both engine and chassis that will face new technological challenges through increased efficiency at high speeds, improved fuel consumption at medium speeds, and increased hydrogen tank capacity.By participating in such a world-renowned event as the Dakar, the HySe entity not only intends to test the HySE-X2, but also aims to develop a global, cross-sectoral network to promote the implementation of hydrogen vehicles for sustainable mobility. “We have decided to participate in the Dakar with the HySE-X2 with an evolved engine and chassis compared to those of the HySE-X1. We are committed to contributing to the development of compact hydrogen engine technologies, checking in 2025. Technical advances gained from the experience accumulated with HySE-X1 and aiming for even higher engine performance. We will share details of our activities on Instagram. Thank you for your support!” said Daichi Kai, Team Manager of HySE Dakar 2025.
