ROME (ITALPRESS) – On Saturday, Dec. 14 at 9 a.m. the AIL community, composed of thousands of volunteers from the 83 territorial sections, hematology patients, family members, caregivers, doctors, researchers, psychologists and nurses, will arrive from all over Italy to meet Pope Francis. The Association, led by AIL National President Giuseppe Toro, will meet the Holy Father at the Paul VI Hall in Vatican City. The Papal Audience will represent a moment of great spiritual growth, brotherhood and hope, and will be an opportunity to symbolically retrace the steps that have led AIL to be, in its 55-year-long journey, a point of reference for blood cancer patients, their families and for all of Italian Hematology. The Holy Father will welcome the more than 3,000 friends of AIL including volunteers, patients, doctors, health workers, psychologists and researchers who will crowd the Paul VI Hall with joy and great emotion. The Pontiff will give His support and express His closeness to the hematological patients, and will greet the volunteers and doctors who every day value the work of AIL, making its mission possible: to promote and support scientific research, to assist patients and families by accompanying them at all stages of the treatment pathway, to improve the quality of life of patients and to raise public awareness of the fight against blood cancers.Symbol of the meeting will be the firefly that, silently, spreads its light in the darkness and sows hope and love in hearts. The message chosen by AIL for the meeting, “Together we illuminate the future,” enshrines the great commitment in the socio-health field that the Italian Association against Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma has been carrying out with tireless commitment for 55 years. “On this anniversary so significant for our Association, it is an immense honor to be received by His Holiness, whom we all thank from the bottom of our hearts. Celebrating 55 years of activity represents a crucial milestone for AIL,” says AIL National President Giuseppe Toro, “and gives us the opportunity to review and enhance the achievements we have made so far, from a scientific and social point of view. We have been privileged to be direct witnesses and to have contributed to the remarkable progress made in scientific research on blood cancers. Our commitment is constantly oriented toward working alongside and supporting patients and their families, offering a multiplicity of services that go beyond treatment: welcoming, hope, solidarity and listening. We firmly believe that ongoing support for scientific research is the key to illuminating the future, meeting the challenges ahead and helping to improve the lives of those who suffer. AIL is an Association with an important history behind it, looking to tomorrow with hope and confidence.”
