Italian Senate Approves Confidence Vote on 2025 Budget Law

Giorgia Meloni's Government Secures Legislative Support for Economic Measures

The Italian Senate has granted confidence to the government regarding the 2025 budget law, which has now been officially passed by Parliament. The vote saw 112 senators in favor, 67 against, and one abstention for the confidence motion. The final tally on the budget law itself was 108 votes in favor, 63 against, and one abstention, marking a significant step for the current administration.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hailed the approval of the budget as a “well-balanced maneuver,” emphasizing its support for low to middle-income households, assistance for families with children, and record funding for the healthcare sector. She noted that the law also aims to reduce the tax burden while fostering conditions for job creation and economic well-being. “We maintain financial order without neglecting our electoral program, making further strides in combating tax evasion and establishing a new relationship between the state and its citizens,” she stated.

Meloni’s remarks reflect the government’s commitment to building a “fairer, stronger, and more competitive Italy,” as it moves forward with its economic agenda. The budget law’s passage is seen as a crucial element in the government’s efforts to stimulate growth and address pressing social issues, reinforcing its mandate to govern effectively.
