ROME (ITALPRESS) – In December, the euro area’s annual inflation rate was 2.4 percent, up from 2.2 percent in November, according to Eurostat data. A year earlier, the rate was 2.9 percent. European Union annual inflation was 2.7 percent in December 2024, up from 2.5 percent in November. A year earlier, the rate was 3.4 percent. According to the Statistical Office of the European Union, the lowest annual rates were recorded in Ireland (1.0%), Italy (1.4%), Luxembourg , Finland and Sweden (all 1.6%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (5.5%), Hungary (4.8%) and Croatia (4.5%). Compared to November 2024, annual inflation decreased in seven member states, remained stable in one and increased in nineteen. In December 2024, the highest contribution to the euro area annual inflation rate came from services (+1.78 percent), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (+0.51 percent), non-energy industrial goods (+0.13 percent) and energy (+0.01 percent).
“Here is what Eurostat certifies. In December, the inflation rate in Italy is significantly lower than the European average and also lower than that of France, Germany and Spain. We are on the right track,” the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, comments on X.
