ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (Gse) and Autostrade dello Stato, the state-owned highway company (Ads), have signed an institutional collaboration agreement to support the implementation of a highway model that contributes to improved environmental performance and the pursuit of European sustainability goals.
The agreement, which is included in the framework of European policies for environmental sustainability and Pniec and in the strategies envisaged by the NRPR, will promote the energy transition of the transport sector and the decarbonization of mobility with solutions geared toward supporting the spread of alternative carriers, such as biofuels and green hydrogen, the identification of areas for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, the development of renewable energy sources, the energy upgrading of the highway network and the promotion of self-consumption configurations for sharing renewable energy.
Vinicio Mosè Vigilante, Ad of Gse, said, “The agreement represents a concrete step toward the realization of a sustainable highway model. The Gse will provide its know-how to support the energy upgrading of highway infrastructure and encourage the spread of innovative solutions for sustainable mobility. Energy efficiency, the integration of renewable sources and the development of alternative energy carriers, are key elements for decarbonization. With this collaboration, we work to make Italian highways increasingly modern, efficient and in harmony with the territory.”
Vito Cozzoli, Ads Ad, stressed, “The signing of this protocol is a first, important step toward achieving a strategic objective of Autostrade dello Stato. The company, in fact, strongly aims at the realization of a sustainable highway model, through the adoption of the most innovative and cutting-edge technologies available on the market. The motivation for this choice is twofold: on the one hand, to reduce the environmental impact of highway infrastructure by promoting a balance between development and protection of the ecosystem, and on the other hand, to help raise awareness among highway users of the need for a more sustainable mobility model, promoting the achievement of emission reduction targets set at the international level.”
