Ferrari ok in free practice, Fia calls for McLaren wing modification

MARINA BAY (SINGAPORE) (ITALPRESS) – From one street circuit to another, from Baku to Singapore. They change the tracks but not the challenges that this Formula 1, for some time now, has been accustomed to show on the track, since Friday. In fact, even in Marina Bay it is expected to be a two-way fight between Ferrari and McLaren, both at the litmus test in what, after the Rossa’s victory in Monza and that of the British team in Baku, will be the third chapter of the saga. In FP1, albeit with different track conditions than those in which qualifying and the race will be run, it was Leclerc himself who was the fastest, with the best time set in 1:31.763. A time to which the McLaren responded appropriately, with Lando Norris only seventy-six thousandths away from the Ferrarista. In the second free practice session, it was Norris’ McLaren that closed ahead of everyone, with a time of 1:30.727 that allowed him to put Leclerc’s Ferrari behind him. Meanwhile, the Fia, following some investigations into irregular flexing of the car’s rear wing found in Baku, ordered the Woking team to adapt its specifications at the expense of a component that would go “against the spirit of the regulations.” Prompt response from McLaren, which in a note aligned itself with the federation’s decision, proceeding “in making some minor changes to the wing following our conversations with the FIA.” A major issue for rival teams such as Ferrari as well, with its team principal Frederic Vasseur quick to judge the issue as “frustrating.” “I’m trying to put it behind me,” said the Frenchman, “I just didn’t understand the communication from the Fia, whether the wing is legal and therefore usable or illegal and so not usable. It’s a bit frustrating, because if we think about Monza and Baku, with so many cars within a few tenths, everything on the track makes a relevant difference.” – Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
