Severe weather in Emilia Romagna and Marche: government declares state of emergency

The national government, during a dedicated meeting of the Council of Ministers at Palazzo Chigi, has declared a state of emergency for the Emilia Romagna region. The proposal was presented by Minister for Civil Protection Nello Musumeci following a request made by the region yesterday and the swift investigation conducted by the national department.

The measure affects the provinces of Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena, and Rimini. Along with the state of emergency, which is set for a duration of 12 months, the Council of Ministers has allocated a sum of 20 million euros to address urgent initial interventions, including rescue operations, assistance to the population, and the restoration of services and infrastructure functionality.

Additionally, the government has declared a state of emergency for the Marche region, also for 12 months, following extreme weather events that began affecting the coastal area on September 18. A sum of 4 million euros has been allocated to implement initial interventions.
