ROMA (ITALPRESS) – A soldier of the Indonesian-born Unifil peace forces was tragically killed last night by the explosion of a bullet in an international peace force station near Adchit Al Qusayr. Another was seriously injured. The same Unifil has made it known, underlining in a note that “no one should ever lose life at the service of the cause of peace”.
Another military was injured and is currently hospitalized in severe conditions. “We do not know the origin of the bullet. We started an investigation to ascertain all circumstances. We reiterate the appeal to all actors to respect their obligations under international law and to ensure at all times the safety of the staff and the properties of the United Nations, refraining from actions that can jeopardize the blue helmets”, emphasizes Unifil.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemns “the incident urgently and calls for an in-depth and transparent investigation.”.
