Atalanta Clinches Fourth Straight Win, Defeats Monza 2-0

Gasperini’s Squad Continues Strong Run Ahead of Showdown with League-Leading Napoli

Atalanta secured its fourth consecutive victory with a 2-0 win over Monza, thanks to second-half goals from Samardzic and Zappacosta. This triumph brings Gasperini’s team to 19 points as they prepare to face top-ranked Napoli on Sunday. Monza, competitive for over 70 minutes, left disappointed and will look to turn things around against Milan to improve their standings.

The match defied expectations, diverging from Monza’s previous game against Verona. Held back by a defensive line pressed close to their own goal, Monza offered limited offensive threat. Atalanta initially struggled to create chances, with Retegui’s weak shot and De Roon’s off-target strike falling short of shaking up a game that was marred by frequent interruptions due to Monza’s time-wasting tactics. Monza’s single real attempt was a shot by Bianco from distance, parried by Carnesecchi.

In the second half, Gasperini introduced Lookman and Samardzic to bring more unpredictability to the game. Samardzic broke the deadlock 25 minutes in, weaving past defenders before a quick strike caught Turati off guard. This goal boosted Atalanta’s confidence, with Samardzic nearly scoring a second.

Zappacosta sealed the match in the 88th minute, cutting inside to place a precise shot into the corner, securing Atalanta’s fourth straight win. Monza’s frustrations were compounded when a goal by Vignato was disallowed due to a foul by D’Ambrosio on Ederson, leaving the team with little consolation.
