ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Mobility, innovation, environment and transformation of the cities will be at the center of the new edition of ECO – Festival of Sustainable Mobility and Smart Cities, scheduled in Rome (Centro Congressi Piazza di Spagna, via Alibert 5A) on 15 and 16 September in the European Week of Mobility 2026. Two mornings of meetings, insights and interviews that will compare institutions, enterprises, experts and representatives of the world of research on the main changes that are affecting the way of moving and living cities, touching different themes: environmental education, urban foresting, effective initiatives in contrast to climate change, commercial desertification of urban centers, electric mobility and driving automation, Mobility-as-a-service, circular economy, safety and quality of life. The 2026 edition will open on 15 September with the institutional greetings of Matteo Ricci, Euro MP and Vice President Commission Transport and Tourism of the European Parliament, and Veronica Nicotra, Secretary Gen. ANCI. Then I open up to the new scenarios of Italian mobility, with Carlo Carminucci, ISFORT Research Director and Head of the AUDIMOB Observatory, which will preview some anticipations of the “Mobility Report: trends and perspectives of Italian mobility”. The program will continue with an interview with Maria Annunziata Giaconia, Director Operations of Regionale, brand of Trenitalia (Gruppo FS), dedicated to the role of rail transport in the development of an increasingly sustainable and integrated mobility. The attention will then move on the advance of the circular economy in our country, with the appointment “Circular Art”, which will see protagonists Simona Fontana, Managing Director CONAI and Beatrice Bertini of Casa Italia – Gallerist at Ex Elettrofonica.
Among the central themes of the ECO 2026 edition will be the Mobility-as-a-Service. Giorgio Pizzi, Managing Director of MIT, will address the new phase from the experience “MaaS for Italy” opening a reflection on the digital evolution of mobility services and the role that new technologies can assume in their management. Sustainability will also be faced from the point of view of investments and the relationship between mobility and territory by Paolo Ruffino, Senior Advisor of Haskoning, who will take part on the issue of loans (often scarce) directed to sustainable mobility and the opportunity to connect them to large real estate and urban operations and infrastructure operations. The first day will close the focus on the themes of ecological transition and the need for correct information, with the interview with Chicco Testa, President of Assoambiente, the intervention of Fabrizio Penna, Director General ISPRA. The second day, September 16, will open with the Councillor for Mobility of the Municipality of Rome Eugenio Patanè and will continue with an interview with Valentino Valentini, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy that will illustrate the initiatives promoted on the issues of sustainable mobility. The institutional interventions will follow the interview with Daniela Biscarini, Head of Charging Point Operator of Enel. Particular attention will be paid to road safety with Giuseppina Fusco, President of the Caracciolo-ACI Foundation, which will take place on the theme “The car of tomorrow and the safety of our cities”. The innovation will also be protagonist with Stefano La Rovere Global Director for Robotics, Mechatronics & Sustainable Amazon Packing that will deepen the value of sustainable innovation for companies and cities increasingly smart. Then there are two insights into the new generations, forced to “remediate to the damages” of the choices of others but, at the same time, eager for adequate training, thanks to the intervention of Daniele Grassucci of Skuola .net; and on the commercial desertification of the urban centers with the speech of Alessandro Cavo, Councilor ConfCommercio for the historical centers.
The relationship between climate change and city will also be addressed through the role of urban green. Andrea Pellegatta, member of the Consul Nazionale Florovivaismo Coldiretti, will speak for Intesa Sanpaolo on the theme “The trees that defy the climate: adaptation, resilience and value of the care” while one of the international appointments will see the connection with Chiara Molinar, responsible for the so-called “Office Camminabilità” of the Municipality of Paris, which will present the experience of the French capital with an intervention centered on the changes in place to rethink today public space and mobility. To close the program will be the panel “The administrators of the cities of the climate in comparison”, introduced by Stefania Crotta DG Programmes and financial incentives of MASE that will then leave room for comparison between the representatives of the Municipalities of Bologna, Florence, Bergamo and Rome; a debate that will allow to put to system different experiences and strategies, highlighting how cities are called to transform infrastructure, mobility and public space to respond simultaneously to the challenges of sustainability, quality of life and adaptation. ECO 2026 is open to all and is confirmed a space of comparison between institutions, enterprises, experts and citizens about the great changes that are redesigning mobility and cities, with a look to technologies, but also to people, territories and the quality of urban space. The Festival will bring together leading players of the industrial and institutional world, with partners like Enel, Regionale di Trenitalia (Gruppo FS), Intesa Sanpaolo, CONAI, Confcommercio, ACI Fondazione Caracciolo, Amazon creating a dialogue between different skills and visions.
