A prominent businesswoman from Viareggio, Cinzia Dal Pino, has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run incident in which she killed 47-year-old Algerian Said Malkoun. The incident occurred on the night of September 8th after Malkoun, a parking attendant in the Darsena district, allegedly robbed Dal Pino at knifepoint. The 65-year-old, who managed a local beach resort, now faces charges of voluntary manslaughter. A detention order has been issued, and a validation hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
Surveillance footage from a store on Via Coppino, released by local broadcaster Canale 50, shows Malkoun being struck and thrown against a storefront by Dal Pino’s white SUV. The video reveals the vehicle reversing and hitting Malkoun multiple times while he lay on the sidewalk. On the fourth impact, with the SUV’s wheels still on Malkoun’s body, Dal Pino exits the vehicle, retrieves a handbag from the ground, and drives away. Despite urgent medical efforts, Malkoun could not be saved.
The swift identification of Dal Pino was facilitated by the clear visibility of her vehicle’s license plate in the surveillance footage. Authorities promptly apprehended her, and the investigation continues as the community grapples with the tragic event.
