ROME (ITALPRESS) – Toyota’s in-house sports car GR Supra has been enhanced with a new limited-edition version that represents the best possible for the model, while an updated GR Supra Lightweight Evo offers new driving pleasure. A thoroughbred sports car with a front-engine/rear-wheel-drive configuration and dimensions that achieve the “golden ratio” for optimum handling, the GR Supra was the first global model to be developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing, the sports division that manages Toyota’s motorsport activities. To thank fans of the current generation Supra and celebrate its active participation in motorsport around the world, TGR has created a limited edition intended to be the culmination of the current model: the GR Supra “A90 Final Edition.” This special edition boasts driving enhancements, starting with 95 hp (70 kW) more power and 70 Nm more torque, distinctive aerodynamic upgrades, a race-inspired KW suspension system, and larger diameter tires. Although production of the current GR Supra will end with the A90 Final Edition, TGR will continue to refine the GR Supra through future motorsport activities.Meanwhile, the GR Supra Lightweight Evo offers the driver an even closer connection to the road. The enhanced handling offers a more direct feel and even more precise handling, thanks to suspension and chassis upgrades, improved braking, optimized tuning and refined aerodynamics. Since its first generation, introduced as the Celica Supra in 1978, the Toyota Supra has delighted enthusiasts with its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and straight-six powertrain, a scheme faithfully maintained ever since. Subsequent generations of Supra have been enjoyed both on the road and on the track. In 2019, driven by the strong desire of President Akio Toyoda, aka Master Driver Morizo, the Supra made a comeback after a 17-year absence. Upon its confirmation, President Toyoda said, “In the past, I spent countless hours driving an old Supra at the Nùrburgring to become a master driver. Supra is like an old friend who holds a special place in my heart. While other manufacturers were testing their beautiful new prototypes they were about to launch, I was driving an old Supra that was no longer in production. So even though Toyota had no plans to make a new Supra, just like many other die-hard Supra fans around the world, I secretly wanted to make it. The new GR Supra was born out of testing at the Nùrburgring, and I can honestly say it is a fun car to drive and better than ever. “The current Supra has continued to evolve since its launch in 2019. A year later, the introduction of a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine-offered in addition to the established 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six unit-has retained all the qualities of the GR Supra as a sports car in its purest form, along with the dynamic advantages of a smaller, lighter powertrain. Toyota introduced a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) in Europe in 2022, designed to delight drivers who enjoy the control and benefits of manual transmissions. True to the thoroughbred engineering quality of the GR Supra, a new transmission, along with a new clutch, was made specifically to match the power and torque characteristics of the 3.0-liter engine. At the same time, the GR Supra’s braking control and suspension systems have been recalibrated for even better performance. Updated versions of the GR Supra Lightweight Evo and the GR Supra A90 Final Edition will be available for order in Europe from spring 2025.
