In a packed Wembley, 96 thousand spectators present, the English “derby” valid for the IBF heavyweight crown was won by Daniel Dubois, beating compatriot Anthony Joshua in the fifth round by knockout. It was an almost one-sided challenge, in which the 34-year-old Joshua never gave the feeling that he could fight on equal terms. For Dubois, 27, the next big title challenge will be next year between the winner of the bout between Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning WBA-WBC-WBO champion, and Britain’s Tyson Fury, scheduled for Dec. 21 in Riyadh. Usyk last June 26 surprisingly announced his decision to give up the IBF title he had won a month earlier against Fury of all people. “Anthony and Daniel, I know the IBF crown is important to you. It is my gift for September 21,” Usyk had said via social.
