CERNOBBIO (ITALPRESS) – The thirteen EuroLeague shareholders clubs have decided to continue the process of transforming existing ten-year franchise licenses and to continue evaluating the number of teams. This is what emerges from the press release at the end of the Cernobbio meeting, dedicated to the main strategic choices on the future of the competition.
“The owners of the clubs present agreed to proceed with the transformation of current ten-year licenses into franchises for the thirteen ECA shareholders clubs”, reads in the note. The companies involved are Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, CSKA Moscow, Armani Olimpia Milan, FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich, Fenerbahce Istanbul, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Olympiacos Pireo, Panathinaikos Athens, Real Madrid and Zalgiris Kaunas.
The clubs also decided to continue the process for expansion. “The club owners have commissioned the Board of Directors to continue the evaluation process and submit a final recommendation for approval in the coming weeks,” adds the statement.
The document does not mention the Nba nor the proposal of the US league for the future of European basketball. However, the thirteen clubs would at least dismiss the NBA offer at least for the moment, leaving the dialogue open. The decision to entrust a final recommendation to the Board of Directors in the coming weeks leaves a space to continue the discussion, while the EuroLeague carries on its path on the transformation of franchise licences.
