A heated rap feud between two of Italy’s most famous rappers, Fedez and Tony Effe, has captivated social media, newspapers, and TV over the past few days. This “dissing” — a hip-hop practice where artists write songs specifically to insult each other — has led to the release of three diss tracks so far, drawing millions of views and sparking intense public debate.
The latest track, “Chiara” by Tony Effe, dropped on Thursday and quickly amassed millions of views. In it, Tony Effe delivers deeply personal attacks on Fedez, referencing his children, his sexual orientation, and even the end of his marriage to businesswoman and influencer Chiara Ferragni. The personal nature of the insults has stirred controversy, with many fans speculating that this feud could be more than just a publicity stunt.
Fedez, born Federico Lucia, and Tony Effe, real name Nicolò Rapisarda, have known each other for years. Their friendship took a public hit in May when Tony claimed in a radio interview that he had declined Fedez’s offer to collaborate on a new song. Fedez later dismissed the situation as an overblown reaction to an informal suggestion, but tensions continued to simmer.
The feud escalated last week when Fedez released “Di Caprio,” a track featuring Niky Savage, which many believed was aimed at Tony Effe. Tony had previously claimed that Niky’s style mimicked his own from 2018. This first diss track opened the floodgates, and Tony soon retaliated with his own 64 Bars freestyle for Red Bull, taking shots at both Niky and Fedez, mocking Fedez’s energy drink brand, Boem, and making several crude remarks about Ferragni.
On Wednesday, Fedez responded with a track titled “L’infanzia difficile di un benestante” (“The Tough Childhood of a Well-Off Kid”), where he attacked Tony Effe for his privileged upbringing in central Rome, accusing him of racism and drug use. The song also fueled rumors about a relationship between Tony and Ferragni, suggesting Tony had been messaging her while maintaining a friendship with Fedez. The music video featured influencer Taylor Mega, a former partner of Tony Effe, adding another layer to the ongoing drama.
Tony Effe’s follow-up track “Chiara” arrived earlier than expected, hitting even harder with accusations about Fedez’s family life and hinting at Fedez’s alleged bisexuality. The song accused Fedez of using his children for social media content, referencing the high volume of posts featuring the children that Fedez and Ferragni shared before their separation.
One particularly scandalous element of “Chiara” includes an audio snippet, speculated to be from Ferragni herself, accusing Fedez of inflating his streaming numbers with fake plays. While the audio was altered to disguise the speaker’s voice, many fans claim to have reversed the effect to identify Ferragni, igniting even more rumors.
Both Fedez and Ferragni have taken to Instagram to denounce the involvement of their children in the feud. Ferragni posted a story asking for their kids to be left out of the battle, and Fedez echoed the sentiment, expressing frustration that his family had been dragged into the dissing.
