ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The Carabinieri Arm always operates in the utmost transparency and respect for law and justice.” The Chief General of the Carabinieri, Salvatore Luongo, said this during an interview with Tg1 on the Garlasco case. With regard to the role of the Scientific Investigation Department in the investigation, General Luongo stated that “the Ris continued to provide its technical-scientific support to the investigations required by the judicial authority, with which there is total and full collaboration”. “Forensic science and Carabinieri’s weapons remain impartial and fundamental tools to seek truth, far beyond media clamor and unnecessary manipulation.” The general commander then reassured the citizens by defining the Ris “an international scientific excellence and a rigorous point of reference”. Regarding the relationship with citizens, Luongo stressed that “the confidence of public opinion is not preserved by hiding doubts, nor is it measured on the infallibility of individuals, but showing every day professionalism, determination, ability to self-critical and absolute rigour in the application of scientific protocols”.
A passage of the interview was also dedicated to the relatives of the people involved, recalling that “we have the duty to respect the pain of the families who have been involved in this tragic affair”. Finally, Luongo focused on possible investigations of past conduct: “If the judiciary will ensure individual irregularities or responsibilities of the past, the response of the Arma will be of total collaboration, of maximum transparency and even absolute firmness.” “Eventual errors or misconduct of individuals must not affect the honorability of thousands of Carabinieri, nor at least the value of the Ris.” “But those who are wrong will respond in every place, because the protection of legality comes before everything.”.
TG1: REPERTI LIQUIDI DISTRUTTI NEL 2016, OK DEI GIUDICI SOLO NEL 2022
The liquid solutions extracted from the traces of the investigation on the murder of Chiara Poggi would be destroyed in May 2016 by Colonel Marino of the RIS of Parma, that is six years before the formal authorization of the judicial authority, arrived only in February 2022. This is what emerges from the cards in possession of the TG1 on the Garlasco case. And yet, in 2007 the same RIS had reported that all the elutes would be preserved and made available to the judiciary. Following the proceedings, the Court of Appeal ordered the destruction of the finds under seizure only in September 2021. Following the opposition of the defense of Alberto Stasi – who asked to preserve some for future examinations – in January 2022 the Court partially accepted the request, returning the bicycles to Stasi and authorizing the disposal of the finds. The story came to light in 2025 in the context of a new inquiry, when the Prosecutor of Pavia decided to clarify the fate of the elutes of track 33 and requested the historian at the RIS of Parma. The current commander of the RIS, Colonel Dondi, has ascertained – through the testimony of two soldiers of the time and photographic material – that it was precisely Colonel Marino to give the order to dispose of the elutes in May 2016. The Prosecutor now intends to determine whether the elute of the imprint 33, the central evidence of the new investigation, was also included among that material.
