ROME (ITALPRESS) – Roma overwhelms Sampdoria 4-1 in the match at the Stadio Olimpico valid for the round of 16 of the 2024/2025 Coppa Italia and secures the pass to the quarterfinals, where they will meet AC Milan: Dovbyk (two goals), Baldanzi and Shomurodov scored. The Giallorossi team had an excellent approach to the match, making themselves dangerous after just four minutes with a fine right-footer from Baldanzi that was punched away by Vismara. Claudio Ranieri’s boys continued to push and on 9′ took the lead thanks to the goal of Artem Dovbyk, who was good at deflecting a perfect cross from Zalewski into the goal with his left foot. The Blucerchiati felt the blow and Roma took advantage of the positive momentum to make it 2-0 on 19′ again with Dovbyk, who signed his personal double by taking advantage of a Meulensteen mix-up on Saelemaekers’ cross. Not even time to reorganize ideas for Sampdoria, when the Capitoline team scores its third with Tommaso Baldanzi: on 24′ the former Empoli man receives a great ball from Paredes, advances to the edge of the box and beats Vismara. Three minutes later an insidious cross-shot by Zalewski puts the visitors’ goalkeeper in trouble, but he manages to save it. Leonardo Semplici’s boys struggle to get past the opponent’s half, but on 36′ comes a somewhat surprise chance on a mistake by Rayn, which, however, does not lead to further developments. In the final minutes of the first half, Dovbyk tries again, but is bricked into the corner. We go to rest on the 3-0 scoreline. In the second half, Sampdoria makes a couple of substitutions to try to reopen the contest and at 61′ manages to shorten the gap with Gerard Yepes, who takes advantage of a mistake by Hermoso and capitalizes on Depaoli’s assist. Claudio Ranieri also decided to change something and the new entries immediately created a great danger in the opponent’s rearguard: at 64′ Soulè made a nice play, but his conclusion smashed against the crossbar. A minute later Dovbyk, all alone in front of Vismara, gobbles up a chance for his hat trick. The Ukrainian was taken over by Eldor Shomurodov, who, seconds after his entrance on the pitch, immediately scored with a header off Angelino’s cross, kicking the poker for the final 4-1. By virtue of this result, Roma qualified for the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia scheduled for February, where they will meet AC Milan. The Giallorossi will be back on the pitch Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Stadio Olimpico to face Parma in the seventeenth day of Serie A.- Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
