Giorgetti “Demographic emergency enters the European agenda.”

BUDAPEST (HUNGARY) (ITALPRESS) – “It is important that the demographic emergency becomes a topic on the European agenda. As Italy we support this initiative. The hope is that today’s debate does not end with the denunciation of a condition common to many countries, including Italy, but becomes the subject of reflections and proposals of the commission.” Thus Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti on the sidelines of the Ecofin discussion devoted to demography and the consequences for the economic and social sustainability of European countries. “Prudently, the commission in recent years has never been concerned with giving recommendations on a topic considered sensitive,” he adds, “but it is also true that the NRP addresses several aspects that are not secondary, such as the need to implement kindergartens to make possible the coexistence of motherhood with work participation. The demographic factor, let’s not forget, has implications on a great many aspects including productivity and growth: when we talk about the competitiveness of the European system inevitably we also have to remember that young cohorts are more productive and tend to be more receptive to the transformations of changes.”
