ROME (ITALPRESS) – Inter overwhelmed Lazio by a 6-0 scoreline at the Stadio Olimpico and climbed to 34 points in the standings (with a match to be made up), one length behind Napoli and three behind leading Atalanta. Former Simone Inzaghi’s team actually went wild between the end of the first half and the start of the second with goals from Calhanoglu (41′), Dimarco (45′), Barella (51′) and Dumfries (53′). Then it was Carlos Augusto (77′) and Thuram (91′) who turned the knockout into a goleada characterized by six goals from six different players. The first turning point of the match, however, came at 28′ when Gila was forced to leave and give way to Gigot, the negative protagonist of the corner kick (37′) from which the 0-1 was born and a double moviola episode: referee Chiffi annulled De Vrij’s goal for offside, but in the same scrum the Var detected a touch with the arm of the former Marseille central. The match director after monitor analysis concedes the penalty and from the eleven meters Calhanoglu does not miss, finding his 100th appearance in goal in Serie A (48 goals and 52 assists). At 45′ Inter doubled: Calhanoglu carried the ball and served Dumfries, whose cross was a kiss assist on the opposite side for Dimarco’s winning left-footed volley. At halftime, both coaches spend a change: Baroni leaves Gigot himself (who had received a blow to the head in the penalty action) in the locker room and sets up the defense with Lazzari on the right and Marusic in the center, while Inzaghi recalls the cautioned Bisseck and inserts Darmian. In the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Nerazzurri found two more goals. First with a missile by Barella from long distance (51′), then with a winning header by Dumfries on Bastoni’s cross (53′). At 77′ there is 5-0: Dimarco fishes Carlos Augusto in the box who avoids Marusic and beats Provedel. There is glory in the recovery for Thuram as well: swerve and strong finish into the net. The only jarring note of the Nerazzurri night was a slight physical problem suffered by Barella. In the next round, Inter will host Como, while Lazio (which remains on 31 points) will visit Lecce.- photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
