This is the last measure taken to cope with the crisis of fuels aggravated by the American war and naval blockade. The government spokesman, Fatemeh Mohajerani, explained that the price of gasoline purchased with the cards of the service stations will rise from 5,000 to 10,000 toman per liter, while the monthly subsidized quotas will remain unchanged. The car owners receive 60 liters per month at 1,500 toman per liter, followed by a second share of 50 liters at 3,000 tomans. In addition to these limits, consumers must resort to station cards at the highest price.
Mohajerani added that government meetings had examined several price options before fixing the 10,000 tomans, based on a commitment previously assumed by President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Revenues from the increase will be destined to support the cost of living of the population.
