Italian Reputation Awards 2025 Delivered

The second edition of the Italian Reputation Awards took place this weekend at the Italian Cultural Institute on Park Avenue. Held in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of NYC, Reputation Research, and the Italia-America Reputation Lab Foundation, the awards celebrate excellence across various fields, highlighting how Italians abroad enhance the global image of our country. The event was hosted in the prestigious hall of the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, attended by Director Fabio Finotti, Hon. Christian Di Sanzo, Member of Parliament elected in the North and Central America constituency, and Silvana Mangione, Deputy Secretary-General of the General Council of Italians Abroad.

Moderated by Cristiana Mancini, a journalist from Sky TG24, the ceremony opened with a video message from the Italian Consul General in New York, Fabrizio Di Michele, who emphasized the importance of reputation as an “intangible and difficult-to-quantify value.” He also highlighted New York’s unique role in representing Italian culture: “NY is one of the most Italian cities in the world outside of our country.” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani extended his greetings in writing, congratulating the winners: “The Italian Reputation Award is an important recognition for those who have distinguished themselves in promoting Italy worldwide with constant commitment and innovation.”

Each awardee received a precious, handmade medal, crafted by master Marco De Luca, known for designing jewelry for significant Italian and international productions. The medal, inspired by ancient Roman coins, is a nod to history and prestige that perfectly represents Italian excellence. It features the goddess Euclea, the spirit of good reputation and glory, a fitting symbol to celebrate those who strengthen Italy’s image globally.

“Our analysis model,” explained Davide Ippolito, founder of Reputation Research, “patented with the Ministry of Economic Development, has defined a system to differentiate the positioning of a brand or person across ten dimensions. Fifteen years ago, when we started, the concept of reputation was perceived as nebulous, with subjective and vague interpretations. This ambiguity prompted me to explore it further, seeking to understand the processes that govern it.”

Notable awardees of the second edition of the Italian Reputation Awards include individuals who have embodied Italian excellence in various fields, enhancing our cultural and innovative heritage worldwide.

Dario Edoardo Viganò, a priest and doctor of cinema, was honored for his efforts to explore the relationship between Catholicism and cinema at the Italian Academy. His unique vision combines faith and art in a dialogue that inspires new cultural reflections.

Annamaria Colao, a world-renowned endocrinologist, was acknowledged for her innovative contributions to medicine and research on metabolic diseases. “We are a generation on the run, but this award invites us to stop and reflect on what we have achieved,” she stated. Currently, Colao is collaborating with the Scuola D’Italia in New York to educate young Italian expatriates on a healthy lifestyle, preserving our country’s rich culinary heritage.

In the visual arts, Emiliano Ponzi was celebrated for his extraordinary creative approach. His illustrations, featured in prominent books and magazines, have also made their mark in New York, where he held a solo exhibition this year. “I call it a condition, almost a disease: the need to continually improve through my work,” he reflected.

Matteo Zuretti, a member of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), received the award for his role in strengthening Italian influence in international sports. “I often find myself in rooms where I am the only foreigner. Why? The answer is simple: because I am Italian. Our cultural identity is an extraordinary resource,” he commented.

Pasquale Punzo stood out for his commitment to environmental engineering and sustainability, particularly in designing water treatment facilities. “Our daily work does not aim for reputation, but for overall well-being,” he emphasized.

In the business sector, Alfonso Cerullo, President of Lenscrafter Luxottica, represented the excellence of “Made in Italy” in the world of eyewear. Luxottica, a global leader in the field, remains a pillar of Italian innovation. “Reputation requires time, ethics, and concrete actions,” he stated during his speech.

On the inclusivity front, Emanuele Battista and Alessio Sansò were awarded for their startup, Limitless Medical, which is revolutionizing the field with a wheelchair that enhances mobility and autonomy for people with disabilities. The device, allowing movement in an upright position, triumphed at the “Perfect Pitch” contest organized by the Italian Consulate of Detroit and Retimpresa Confindustria. “Restoring dignity and pride is our mission,” Sansò explained.

Journalist Mario Calvo-Platero was honored for his extraordinary career, during which he has covered historical events for the prestigious newspaper La Repubblica. “Today, journalism too often aims for scandal to gain visibility. We need to return to valuing authentic storytelling,” he stated.

The evening was further enriched by a performance from guitarist Davide Pannozzo, contributing to a unique atmosphere.

Attending were: Michael Cascianelli, principal of Scuola d’Italia; Carmine Spatolisano, CEO of Telejinform; Pasquale Riccio, President of Progetto Alfa; Don Luigi Portarulo, pastor of San Patrick Church New York; and Federico Vezzaro, artist. The initiative is promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, Reputation Research, RetImpresa, Progetto Alfa, IARL – Italia America Reputation Lab, and Federmanager.
