Italy and Uzbekistan strengthen academic and scientific cooperation with ten new joint research projects

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Italy and Uzbekistan strengthen academic and scientific cooperation with ten new joint research projects, presented today in Rome during the second Forum of Italian-uzbeko Higher Education and co-funded by the two countries with a million euros each.

From sustainable management of water resources in the cities of Central Asia to quantum technologies for encryption, from biomaterials for bone regeneration to digital solutions for agri-food traceability: the selected projects cover strategic areas for sustainable development, technological innovation and the strengthening of skills in the two university systems, with particular attention to applied research and technological transfer.

The initiatives were selected as part of a joint call promoted by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Founded among more than 160 proposals, they were presented today during the second Forum of Italian-uzbeko Higher Education, organized by the Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities (CRUI) in collaboration with MUR, the University of Rome Tre and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Uzbek Innovation.

“The strengthening of collaboration between Italy and Uzbekistan – Minister Bernini explained – also passes through university and research. Academic cooperation as well as networking skills and enhancing them in common projects, creates stable relations between universities, researchers and territories. This means strengthening the internationalization of our universities, training new professionalism and generating innovation that can produce concrete development for both countries.”.

The event is part of the Strategic Partnership between Italy and Uzbekistan, signed in Rome on 8 June 2023 by the President of the Giorgia Meloni Council and the Uzbeko President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and implements the Memorandum of Understanding signed in the same year to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation, promoting the internationalization of universities and the creation of joint training paths. On the edge of the Forum, the Minister of the University and Research Anna Maria Bernini held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan, Kongratbay Sharipov, to define the next lines of collaboration between the two university systems.
