ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Constitutional Court meeting in chambers unanimously elected Judge Giovanni Amoroso as president.The newly appointed president, who was elected a constitutional judge by the Court of Cassation on Oct. 26, 2017, was sworn in on Nov. 13, 2017.Formerly vice president since Dec. 12, 2023, he will serve until Nov. 13, 2026, when his nine-year term as constitutional judge expires. As his first act, President Amoroso appointed Judges Francesco ViganĂ² and Luca Antonini as vice presidents.Born in Mercato Sanseverino (Salerno, Italy) on March 30, 1949, he was appointed magistrate by ministerial decree on March 27, 1975; served as criminal praetor at the Bergamo Magistrate’s Court (1976-1980) and labor praetor at the Rome Magistrate’s Court (1980-1984).Assigned to the Office of the Supreme Court in 1984, first as a court magistrate (1984-1989) and then as an appellate magistrate (1996-2000), he was applied to the Labor Section where he participated in the panels as rapporteur and then extender of the pronouncements adopted.In the period 1986-1989 he was applied to the Electronic Documentation Center of the Court of Cassation and was in charge of learning courses on the Italgiure system of the Court’s databases.From 1990 to 1996 he was placed out of the judiciary as a full-time study assistant to Constitutional Judge Renato Granata; subsequently – having returned to the judiciary as an appellate magistrate applied to the Office of the Supreme Court’s Massimarium – he continued, on a part-time basis, until 1999 his collaboration with Constitutional Judge Renato Granata, who was elected President of the Court.Thereafter, from 1999 to 2008, while remaining on the bench as a magistrate of the Court of Cassation, he was a study assistant to Constitutional Judge, later President, Franco Bile.Appointed Councilor of Cassation in 2000, he was first assigned to the Third Criminal Section, with application to the Labor Section and, later, assigned to the latter with application to the Third Criminal Section.Having attained eligibility for higher management functions, since March 2006 he has been designated as a member of the United Civil Sections of the Court of Cassation.Appointed Deputy Director of the Court’s Office of the Supreme Court in February 2013, he subsequently became its Director.In February 2015, he was appointed as President of the Court’s Chambers and assigned to the Labor Section.In June 2015, he was also assigned to the United Civil Sections as a non-tenured President of the Chambers, also being designated as coordinator of the United Civil Sections.
