ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the International Italo-Latin American Organization (IILA) I am pleased to address my greeting to the Authorities and illustrious guests present at this celebratory event, dedicated to the importance and perspectives of the relations between Italy, Europe and Latin America, also in the light of the recent entry into force of the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement”. Thus the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in his message on the occasion of the meeting “Italy, Europe and Latin America: the time of the turn towards a new strategic centrality. Prospects for growth and Mercosur” and the 60th anniversary of the IILA.
“In the face of an international conjuncture marked to an increasing extent by conflicts, instability and uncertainties, it is necessary in fact to support initiatives of economic and commercial cooperation capable of creating links between different regions of the world, to stimulate cohesion and mutual trust within the Community of the States, placing the premises for a shared development – Mattarella continues. To assess the milestone reached with the EU-Mercosur agreement, which I hope will soon follow the signature of the modernized Global Agreement with Mexico, means to look to the future of relations between Europe and Latin America from a constructive perspective, which favours and pursues a fair opening of markets, respect for international legality, interdependence. This is an indispensable precondition for a common horizon of peace, stability and prosperity for both continents and on a global scale. To these high aims, thanks to the constant search for dialogue and effective collaborations with Latin American countries in many areas, the activity carried out by the ILA has made a significant and worthy contribution. I hope, sixty years after its foundation, the worthy continuation and I wish the organizers and all present a fruitful course of the work.”.
